Historical consciousness course (H).
A comprehensive study of the United States policies in Vietnam: the history of Vietnam prior to U.S. involvement; the origins of U.S. involvement; the framework of U.S. foreign policy within which Vietnam became a focus; the relations of U.S. culture and politics with our involvement in Vietnam; the war itself and its conclusions and consequences; and the meaning of the war, militarily, diplomatically, politically, economically, culturally, and psychologically. Special focus on the ethical dilemmas of the war: My Lai, Agent Orange, POWs, self-determination, communism, imperialism, reparations, and MIAs.
