NURS 4901 - NURSING PRACTICUM
Prerequisite: NURS 3331, NURS 3333.
This course develops history taking and health assessment techniques and skills introduced in NURS 3333. Students begin the course in the classroom and focus on the assessment of children and older adults. They progress to the on-campus clinical laboratory and carry out a health history, assessment and care plan on a pediatric and a geriatric client using a nursing model. The promotion of health and prevention of illness is stressed. Students spend time in a clinical placement site that complements their previous clinical experiences, strengthens physical assessment skills and expose students to the expanded role of the professional nurse. Students are expected to incorporate issues in human diversity, critical thinking as a means to effectively plan therapeutic nursing interventions and ethical issues when planning for the health of the pediatric and geriatric client. .
